Is LetDirect safe to use in South Africa?
Before you use any rental site, check how it handles listings. Here's how LetDirect works and what protects tenants and landlords.
LetDirect doesn't pull listings in from other sites. The landlord or managing agent adds each listing themselves, and we check it by hand before it goes live. That means no duplicate listings, no old prices copied from a feed, and no unit still showing as available months after it was let.
Most rental scams happen after the first contact, not on the platform itself. Scammers post on busy rental sites because a fake listing is easy to hide among many real ones. Watch for rent well below the area, a 'landlord' who is overseas and can't show the unit, or a request for a deposit or holding fee before you've seen the place.
LetDirect can't remove that risk completely, and no platform can. What it does remove is the middleman: you always deal with the actual landlord or managing agent, never a lead-reseller. Verified listings carry a badge, so you can see which ones we've checked.
The usual rules still apply. Never pay to secure a viewing. See the property in person, or on a live video call, before you pay anything. If something feels off, ask for a recent utility bill or rates account in the landlord's name.
